NAZA Funds 1,100 Free Program Slots for Middle Schoolers
Even though school is back in session, it’s safe to say that it’s not what we’re used to.
But if your child was a regular after school program-goer, and they miss that time after the bell rings at the end of the school day, we’ve got some great news for you.
The Nashville After Zone Alliance (NAZA), the city’s out-of-school time system housed in Nashville Public Library (NPL), is funding 1,105 afterschool program slots for middle schoolers that you can apply for now.
Through partnerships with youth development organizations in Nashville, youth can apply for afterschool activities that cover a wide array of topics, from homework help to fun activities that grow social, emotional, and STEAM skills and more, across 35 elementary, middle, and charter schools.
The types of activities and number of slots available depends on the program. Sample activities offered by different organizations include visual and performing arts, sports and physical fitness activities, cooking and nutrition classes, STEAM activities, environmental education, career exploration, service projects, homework help, and field trips to local cultural centers. Many of these programs offer youth leadership opportunities within programs.
Because the programs are funded by NAZA, they are offered at no cost to 5 – 8th graders and their families. All participants are eligible for a free snack or meal. Select locations also offer transportation home after the program.
For now, all programs are offered in-person. To maintain safety for youth, parents/caregivers, and program administrators, health and safety guidelines are followed at all times.
Visit NAZA’s website to view a complete list of participating schools, program descriptions, and contact information. Once you’ve found the program you want, use the online form to apply. Applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Once you’ve submitted your application, the program manager will review your application and contact you. Typically, this process takes about one week.
If you have any questions about the program(s), or your application, please contact the person listed in the program description.
NAZA’s mission is to increase equitable access to out-of-school time learning experiences that help youth thrive and develop to their full potential. Launched in 2010 by then-Mayor Karl Dean, NAZA is a partnership between Nashville Public Library, Metro Nashville Public Schools, the Mayor’s Office, and more than 20 youth-serving organizations, all working collaboratively to improve the learning experiences of youth.
