Vital Records Finding Aids
Please note that Tennessee did not begin keeping mandatory birth records state-wide until 1908. If you cannot find the name you are looking for, the birth may have been recorded with the county, or it may not have been recorded.
The Metro Archives has death records from the City of Nashville from 1874 to 1913, and Davidson County deaths from 1900 to 1912.
The Metro Archives holds Nashville and Davidson County marriage records spanning from 1788 to February 2017. There are three indexes online which cover different time periods and are organized differently. If you cannot find a record online, we also have print indexes at Metro Archives for marriages between 1789 and 1863. To order a copy of a marriage license/bond, please contact the Metro Archives.
