Known for his Gothic or Victorian Gothic tales, Joseph Thomas Sheridan Le Fanu (1814 – 1873) was the leading horror or ghost-story writer of the nineteenth century.  You may remember some of his excellent storytelling here on All Things Eerie in the tale of Carmilla, one of the earliest vampire stories.  Tonight's story, "An Authentic Narrative of a Haunted House," delivers precisely what the title suggests and begins with what has come to be a common starting place for a ghost story - a statement given by the narrator attesting to the truth and validity of what is to follow in the story itself.  Let's see how believable this story really is -
