Welcome to the Valley

September 23, 2019

In about a month, Silicon Valley will start its last season on HBO. Here's why you should get caught up before it ends.

I am here to admit I have made a grave mistake. In my Binge-Worthy Series post, I gave you a list of some of my favorite series, but I left off one of the best ones, and I am here to right that wrong. In my distress about the upcoming end to Game of Thrones, I forgot to tell you about Silicon Valley. Also on HBO, Silicon Valley follows the life of Richard Hendricks, a programming genius with a billion-dollar algorithm, and his friends as they navigate keeping their start-up afloat in the cutthroat world of tech.

The show moves fast. One minute you're watching as the team rides the high of successfully getting seed money or winning a competition, and the next you see them scrambling to save the company. The characters are perfectly cast. Thomas Middleditch is the incredibly introverted protagonist Richard, Zach Woods is his very codependent business partner Jared, Kumail Nanjiani is the goofy java coder Dinesh, and Martin Starr is the very dry, very funny systems architect Gilfoyle. They are Pied Piper's core four, and watching them bicker with one another never fails to get me laughing. The writing is whip smart, as you would expect coming from Mike Judge, and the acting is phenomenal. Really all the elements that go into making the show are beautiful, but at the end of the day what makes this show shine is the chemistry they all have together. You can tell that they really adore being around one another on and off screen, and to me, that is priceless.

Even if you don't know anything about tech, you'll find their scenario relatable, and you'll want to root for these lovable underdogs to win in the end. I mean, I hope they do. The last season starts in October, but if you need to catch up, or want to watch your favorite episodes, we've got you covered.
